Navy aircraft someday could be refueled in mid-air by the progeny of Boeing’s MQ-25 unmanned aircraft system (UAS). The company offered a sneak peek at the MQ-25, which would be able to take off and land on aircraft carriers. The UAS would be able to refuel F/A-18 Super Hornet, EA-18G Growler and F-35C planes, and is under development at Boeing’s Phantom Works facilities.
Tactical Airlift Missions in Afghanistan Increase
The Air Force is flying more tactical airlift missions in Afghanistan. “We have seen an increase of 18 percent of the missions supported from [the squadron’s] previous rotation, resulting in an increase of 30 percent of cargo and passengers we’ve delivered in the same amount of time,” said Maj. Danny Bellissimo of the 774th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron, which flies C-130J Super Hercules transport aircraft.
The airlift missions support Operations Freedom’s Sentinel and Resolute Support.
