The Coast Guard has changed its tattoo policy, to include the following:
* Tattoos and other permanent body marks cannot be visible above the collar of the service’s operational dress uniform and crewneck t-shirt.
*  Finger tattoos are limited to one per hand, between the first knuckle closest to the wrist and the second knuckle. Ring tattoos are permitted, but each would be considered the one allowed per hand. Thumb tattoos are not acceptable.
* Hand tattoos are permitted, but can no be any larger than one inch in dimension. They must be situated between the wrist and first knuckle closes to the wrist. Palm tattoos are not permitted.
* One hand tattoo and one finger or ring tattoo are allowed for each hand.
