Coast Guard spouses who face licensing and certification costs when they try to find jobs in their fields of expertise at new duty stations are getting help. The service announced May 25 that it would begin reimbursing such expenses ‘ including state-imposed examination and registration fees. Spouses can back-file their reimbursement requests to Dec. 12, 2017, when the 2018 defense-spending bill that allowed such reimbursements was signed into law. An estimated 10 to 20 percent of the roughly 2,500 working Coast Guard spouses hold jobs that require state licenses and certifications.
