The 1.13 million military health care beneficiaries ages 75 and older are now eligible to receive the vaccine for Covid-19 through the military health-care system. Vaccinations for these beneficiaries, who are covered under the TRICARE for Life health plan, have begun in many locales. TRICARE advises that the vaccines’ availability will vary by location. As such, beneficiaries can stay informed through the web site of their military medical facility, news media or social media. The agency recommends that beneficiaries should contact their local military hospital or clinic for information about the process and vaccine availability. More vaccine should be available in the coming months, and TRICARE is working to ensure that beneficiaries should not have to bear any expense for it. In time, all TRICARE beneficiaries will be able to get the vaccine at either military treatment facilities, through civilian providers, or at TRICARE network pharmacies. In the meantime, the agency continues to urge all beneficiaries to follow guidelines set by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) – to include social distancing, frequent hand-washing, and wearing of masks.
