The Defense Department announced July 29 that Sailors and Airmen are now able to “Go Army” under a program intended to rebalance the size of the services. Under “Operation Blue to Green,” the Army will reach out to Sailors and Airmen and underscore the advantages of swapping their present uniform for Army green. For example, a Soldier will pin on the rank of E-6 at least four years more quickly than an Airman holding the same skill. The Army also plans to use bonuses as incentives and to guide the experience mix so that promotions stay strong. The program focuses on grades E-1 to E-5, but other grades will be considered where needed. For instance, the Army will continue to have a sizeable demand for skills in law enforcement, health care, communications and intelligence, say officials. Visit goarmy.com.
