Two Air Force doctors (previous item) have provided emergency warning signs in connection with flu that
signal urgent medical attention. Individuals should seek medical care immediately if they are
experiencing any of those signs, the doctors said. They should tell the reception staff at the hospital
that they think they have the flu. In children, emergency warning signs include fast breathing or trouble
in breathing; bluish skin color; not drinking enough fluids; not waking up or not interacting; being so
irritable that the child does not want to be held; flu-like symptoms that improve but then return with
fever and a worse cough; and fever with a rash. In adults, emergency warning signs include difficulty in
breathing or shortness of breath; pain or pressure in the chest or abdomen; sudden dizziness; confusion;
and severe or persistent vomiting.
