Chief Culinary Specialist Dominique Saavedra pinned on dolphins Aug. 2, becoming the first enlisted female sailor to qualify for submarine service. Saavedra earned her submarine qualification while serving on the ballistic missile submarine Ohio, and is now preparing to deploy on a sister ship, the Michigan. To qualify, she completed the Basic Enlisted Submarine School at New London Naval Submarine Base, Conn. Another 38 female sailors now are in the training pipeline to serve on submarines.
