The crew of the carrier Gerald R. Ford conducted a full-mission bridge simulator at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Va., on March 17, completing a critical step before the vessel is commissioned and joins the fleet. The mission entailed a simulated navigation of tricky waterways and precision anchoring. It marked the first time Ford’s crew performed such tasks. They learned the job while watching fellow sailors on the carrier Dwight D. Eisenhower conduct a similar mission earlier. Ford is expected to join the fleet later this year.
