The Marine Corps is considering an extension service for the AV-8B Harrier II aircraft through 2028 — three years longer than its projected retirement date. Seapower magazine reported April 4 that the Marines also hope to keep the fleet of F/A-18 Super Hornet aircraft in service through 2030-2031. Lt. Gen. Steven R. Rudder, the Marine Corps deputy commandant for aviation, explained the plan during an April 4 hearing of the House Armed Forces subcommittee on ground forces.
