House Passes ’18 Defense-Spending Bill

The House passed the 2018 National Defense Authorization Act July 14, by a vote of 344-81. The measure calls for $689 billion, and includes provisions to fund overseas combat operations. It also would increase total strength, extend certain bonuses and allowances, fund health-care operations, update existing weapons systems, and procure new ones. Service members would receive a 2.4-percent raise in basic pay on Jan. 1 – higher than the 2.1 percent requested by the White House.
