Kelly Chosen To Head DHS

President-Elect Trump has chosen retired Marine Corps Gen. John F. Kelly to head the Department of Homeland Security, according to numerous news reports. Kelly retired from active duty in January, after 45 years of service. He was commander of U.S. Southern Command at the time. Voice of America reported that Kelly will take a tough stance on border security, and has clashed with the Obama administration on policies regarding the integration of women into combat jobs and the status of the detention camp at Guantanamo Bay Naval Station, Cuba. He also is the highest-ranking officer ever to lose a child in combat. His youngest son, Marine 1st Lt. Robert Michael Kelly, died in Afghanistan in November 2010, during his third deployment there.
