Several lawmakers say that the Trump administration’s plan to limit transferability of Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits is a bad idea. The administration issued the change on July 12, which prevents service member participants from transferring their education benefits to eligible family members.

“There may be any number of reasons why a service member or veteran chooses not to use their education benefit for themselves, and it should be their right to pass that hard-earned [benefit] over to a close family member such as a child or a spouse,” said Rep. Joe Courtney, D-Conn., in a letter to Defense Secretary James Mattis that was signed by 83 members of Congress from both parties.
