Legion Comes out in Favor of Medical Marijuana

The American Legion, the nation’s largest veterans’ service organization, has called upon the Department of Veterans Affairs to allow its health-care providers to offer marijuana to patients who could benefit from it. MassRoots.com, an organization that supports the use of medical marijuana, reported Aug. 24 that the Legion approved of a resolution that day in support of allowing VA doctors to  “discuss” the issue. Current VA policy effectively prohibits such conversations, as well as any related actions on the part of VA employees. VA Secretary Dr. David Shulkin recently acknowledged that clinical studies may prove that marijuana has a therapeutic role, but reaffirmed his commitment to keep the ban in place until the laws against its use are changed.
