The American Legion is taking a strong stand against a provision of the Senate version of the 2017 defense-spending bill, which the organization believes would wrongly curtail veterans’ preference in hiring for federal jobs. The Legion, the nation’s largest veterans’ service organization, drafted a letter to the House urging its members to reject the Senate’s plan to end hiring preference for veterans once they obtain a federal job and are seeking another, the Washington Post reported June 21.
