The Air Force suspended all Light Attack Experiment flights July 3, in the aftermath of the death of a test pilot in a crash last month. Navy Lt. Christopher Carey Short was killed when the A-29 Super Tucano aircraft he was flying went down June 23 while on a raining flight over the Red Rio Bombing Range in New Mexico, Air Force Magazine reported. The Air Force’s chief acquisition officer, Lt. Gen. Arnold Bunch, told the magazine that even though flights have been suspended, the project may move forward anyway. The services could submit a request for proposals (RFP) for a new plane as soon as the end of this year, according to the article.
