The Defense Department wants states to situate wind turbines in places and under conditions that would not adversely affect the military mission. The Associated Press reported that the Pentagon and Air Force specifically asked North Dakota officials and lawmakers to ensure that wind turbines are situated at least two miles away from launch facilities, the AP reported. The military also wants wind turbine sites to be equipped with special lighting that is visible to helicopter pilots wearing night vision goggles. The military is also concerned with wind turbine sites in Montana, Colorado, Nebraska and Wyoming, and would like similar accommodations in those states as well, AP reported.
