Marines soon will be able to carry and use umbrellas. Military.com reported that Gen. David Berger, the commandant, has declared bumbershoots “good to go.” Clarification would emerge soon in a service-wide administrative announcement. Details revealed by Military.com stated that Marines would be allowed to use all-black plain, standard or collapsible umbrellas in bad weather while wearing service or dress uniforms. When clad in their combat utility uniforms, however, Marines still will have to either rely upon their raincoats and covers or get wet. The service had permitted female Marines to use umbrellas for a while, requiring them to hold the rain protection in their left hands so they still could be able to salute.
