The Marine Corps plans to remove the suffix “man” from many military occupational specialty (MOS) designations, Marine Corps Times reported June 27. The change will affect 19 MOSs. While riflemen and mortarmen will be unaffected, others – included basic infantry, artillery, infantry assault, fire support, armor, engineer, and amphibious assault – will change. Navy Secretary Ray Mabus called for the chiefs of each service to review job names and change them to reflect the integration of women into previously closed roles.
