The Marine Corps Systems Command expects to add the Naval Strike Missile (NSM) into its inventory. Seapower magazine reported that Raytheon, the NSM contractor, announced the plan on May 7 at the Navy League’s Sea-Air-Space show at Fort Washington, Md. The Marines have been looking recently for an anti-ship missile platform, Seapower reported. The Navy plans to deploy NSMs on littoral combat ships and the next iteration of its frigates, according to the report. A Raytheon spokesman would not discuss how the Marines plan to use the NSM, a type of cruise missile, other than to say it was exploring several options.
