Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego will train its first female recruits. Military.com reported that the service plans to indoctrinate 60 women there, in following with a congressional mandate to integrate the sexes during training. Female Marines traditionally have trained at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina. The decision to train female Marines at the California installation is part of a test to see how the service adjusts to coed recruit training, Military.com reported. The story also noted that three women recently completed drill instructor training at San Diego, and will assume a key role in training the new female recruits.
