The Navy plans to a name a new Arleigh Burke-class destroyer after a lawmaker who championed the cause of national security while serving on Capitol Hill. Sen. Richard Lugar, R-Ind., chaired the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and co-wrote a key piece of legislation aimed at reducing the threats of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons during his 38-year career. Before entering politics, Lugar served in the Navy from 1957 to 1960.
