Service members and retirees will have to make significant decisions in the coming months regarding their health care coverage for next year. During open season — Nov. 12-Dec 10 — most beneficiaries can opt for which TRICARE plan in which they wish to participate. Active-duty and reserve-component service members need not select a TRICARE plan because they are already covered — unless they are near retirement. Active-duty family members and retirees can change their TRICARE plans.
Active-duty service members do not qualify for the FEDVIP vision plan. Reserve-component members, family members, and retirees who want vision coverage must enroll during open season.
A key change involves dental coverage. The existing TRDP program will end on Dec. 31. Retirees and their family members who are enrolled in either TRICARE Prime or TRICARE Select, and retirees and family members who use TRICARE for Life must enroll during open season in the FEDVIP dental plan.
