A final rule in the March 26 Federal Register completed the setup of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children Overseas (WIC). The program is administering almost 25,000 service members, DoD civilians, contractors and family members from 53 offices in 11 countries: Belgium, Cuba, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Portugal, Spain, Turkey, and the United Kingdom. WIC, like its stateside counterpart, offers vouchers or drafts for milk, cheese, peanut butter, juices and similar foods to overseas families. To qualify, a family of four, as an example, must have no more than $42,550 in gross income (Basic Allowance for Housing, in-kind housing benefits and overseas cost-of-living allowances excluded).
