The Air Force selected Raytheon Company to provide modernized radars for the service’s fleet of B-52 Stratofortress bombers. Initial production will begin in 2024, the company announced. Once complete and functional, the radar systems should positively affect the planes’ mission readiness through 2050. They would provide operators with better mapping and detection range, and allow for them to track a greater number of targets simultaneously. The first B-52 flew in 1952.
