Air Force officials are offering lieutenant colonels and colonels a reduction of the time-in-grade requirement for retirement from three years to two during fiscal 2005. Criteria: must be a lieutenant colonel or colonel on active duty with at least two years and less than three years time in grade on the requested retirement date; must have served at least 20 years of total active federal military service and 10 years commissioned service by the requested retirement date, and must have served satisfactorily in grade. Deployed officers may apply; however the requested retirement date must be at least 30 days following their return to home station. Waivers of active-duty service commitments will be given according to the limited active-duty service-commitment waiver program. Members must retire not later than Sept. 1, 2005. Interested officers should contact their servicing military personnel flight or visit afpc.randolph.af.mil.
