Rights Groups Challenge Transgender Ban

Meanwhile, President Trump’s decision to kick transgender persons out of the armed forces is facing a legal challenge. Three civil-liberties organizations – Lambda Legal and OutServe, the Human rights Campaign, and the Gender Justice League, have filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington on behalf of:

* Ryan Karnoski, of Seattle, a civilian who wants to join the military and become a social worker.
* Army Staff Sgt. Cathrine “Katie” Schmid, 22, stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash.
* Drew Lane, of Corpus Christi, Texas, a high school student who wants to join the Air Force.

Among other issues, they contend that allowing transgender persons to serve has no ill effects on readiness.
