Vice Adm. Karl L. Schultz has been nominated by Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen M. Nielsen to serve as the next commandant of the Coast Guard. Schultz, who now serves as commander of the Coast Guard’s Atlantic Area, would succeed Adm. Paul F. Zukunft on June 1, pending confirmation by the Senate. Vice Adm. Charles W. Ray would become the Coast Guard’s next vice commandant. Ray is now deputy commandant for operations.
