Adm. Karl Schultz became the 26thcommandant of the Coast Guard during a June 1 ceremony at Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, D.C. Schultz succeeds Adm. Paul F. Zukunft, who is retiring after 41 years in uniform. Zukunft held the job as the Coast Guard’s top military officer since 2014. His accomplishments as commandant include working to procure national security, fast response, waterways commerce and offshore patrol cutters for the service. Before becoming commandant, Schultz served most recently as Atlantic Area commander.
