The Senate voted 89-6 to confirm Mark T. Esper as secretary of the Army. Esper, a retired soldier who attended the U.S. Military Academy and served in combat, also worked as an aide on Capitol Hill. His experiences also include stints at a Washington, D.C.-based think tank and as assistant defense secretary for policy. He comes to his new position from Raytheon Corp., a major defense contractor.
