An Army warrant officer’s invention will enhance safety and improve longevity of light towed howitzers. The tool Chief Warrant Officer 2 Steve Murphy devised allows artillery units to remove seized muzzle brakes on light howitzers much more easily than before. Until Murphy devised the tool, soldiers often were reduced to taking a sledgehammer to the stubborn brakes. Instead, the device attaches to the muzzle brake. Soldiers then can remove it with a simple turn. In time, the device is expected to save the Army more than $265,000.
