Congress passed a $1 trillion measure that is part continuing resolution and part omnibus bill Dec. 12, which will keep the government functioning while lawmakers presumably can work out a more complete spending bill for 2015. According to the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA), the temporary measure includes several provisions that benefit service members, veterans, and their dependents. Funding for the Department of Veterans Affairs, for example, has been approved through fiscal year 2016, which ends Sept. 30, 2016. Beneficiaries of VA care, compensation and pensions can expect to receive those services through then without interruption. MOAA reports that the measure, known as the “cromnibus,” also restores some commissary funding that had been cut in the initial 2015 defense-spending bill.
