Travel reimbursement for service members could be going down. The Military Officers Association of American (MOAA) reports that beginning Nov. 1, service members will receive a flat per-diem rate for temporary duty (TDY), depending on the duration of the travel. For travel that lasts longer than 30 days, service members will receive up to 100 percent of lodging per diem and 75 percent of meals for travel days. The rate for long-term TDY (31 to 180 days) is 75 percent of the locality rate, payable for each full day of duty at the TDY location. Long-term TDY (greater than 181 days) would pay 55 percent of the locality rate. When government or contracted housing is available, the flat per-diem rate does not apply. Instead, compensation would be based on actual lodging costs.
