The MQ-25 unmanned aerial refueler completed its first test flight during a Sept. 19 test at Boeing’s facilities in Mascoutah, Ill. During the two-hour flight, the aircraft conducted an autonomous taxi and takeoff, and then flew a pre-determined route while controllers on the ground tested flight systems and operations. Boeing is producing four MQ-25s for the Navy under an $805 million contract. Once the aircraft is ready to join the fleet, it will provide carrier-based aerial refueling capabilities at a broader range than presently available.
