The Navy received the first upgraded MQ-8C Fire Scout unmanned helicopters, the service announced Dec. 4. The new, larger Fire Scout boasts twice the endurance and can carry three times the payload, compared to B versions. As a result, the Navy will benefit from greater intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities. Aircraft manufacturer Northrop Grumman Corp. is under contract to build 19 of the 70 aircraft the Navy plans to buy.
