The Department of Veterans Affairs reported 45,239 vacancies, as of June 30. The agency is authorized to have 419,353 full-time positions.
The most significant shortfall is in the Veterans Health Administration. Of the 375,953 employees VHA can have, 40,456 are not filled. These jobs would include critically needed health-care providers.
The Veterans Benefits Administration, which processes claims and appeals, has 1,978 vacancies. VBA is authorized to have 25,560 full-time employees.
The National Cemetery Administration reports 233 vacancies out of 2,179 full-time slots. VA’s staff offices, which are authorized to have 15,661 full-time employees, have 2,572 vacancies.
