The Department of Veterans Affairs is teaming with the Elizabeth Dole Foundation and the Philips North America Corporation to welcome all service members, veterans, and their caregivers who would be giving birth this year. The Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) reported that VA plans to throw a Mother’s Day “nationwide baby shower” at various days between May 5 and 13. With fully half of all female veterans in their 20s and 30s, VA and its partners hope to make them aware of the primary, prenatal, maternity and newborn services for which they qualify. Expectant mothers who visit the VA facilities each will get a kit that includes a diaper bag, hairbrush and comb set, bib, layette, blanket, hat and toiletries. Some visitors could go home with car seats or cribs, MOAA reported.
