Veterans and their family members around the country are beginning to use a new web app to rate their experiences at VA healthcare facilities.

http://www.vareview.net/ features an interactive map where users can find or locate hospitals, outpatient clinics and other facilities, and if they want to, leave a review.

“My hope is that as the website becomes more and more popular and trends begin to form, management in the federal government can easily decipher where they should or should not focus their energy and resources,” says Neil Barrett, who spent four years in the Marines.

Barrett, who says he’s not advocating for the VA to be privatized, wants his app to help improve an “already great system where necessary” – including making care more consistent across the board.

Another admirable goal of VAreview.net is to encourage certain veterans to get past the idea that seeking treatment for mental or physical ailments is a form of weakness by being able to identify with reviews (some quite lengthy and detailed) left by other vets and their families.
