Federal Executive Boards have been involved in pandemic response in a range of ways and are also involved in planning for the return of more federal employees to their regular worksites from telework, according to the group’s annual report.

“FEBs served as a convening resource to bring agency senior leaders together to share best practices and discuss common concerns . . . FEBs also connected strategic partners to obtain vital protective equipment and supplies for federal first responders and front line workers,” it says.

Other activities included for example involvement with local building safety committees and recruiting volunteers to staff a virus information call center for DoD military and civilian personnel. Boards also “partnered with FEMA to host virtual federal reconstitution webinars, which provided strategies to resume normal office operations, including flexibilities for telework, social distancing, and wearing facial coverings.”

The 28 FEBs nationwide are centered in major cities and some smaller ones with large federal populations, and consist of executives of the differing agencies in an area. Other major activities include conducting emergency preparedness exercises, training workshops, leadership development programs and alternative dispute resolution programs.

The boards also sponsor activities including the Combined Federal Campaign, food donation and blood donation drives, CPR training, awards programs and hiring fairs. They also coordinate with state and local officials during events that in 2020 included hurricanes, power outages, protests, severe weather, wildfires and major sports events.
