GAO has issued an “Agile Assessment Guide” and related content for federal agencies, identifying software development practices and key challenges agencies face in applying them, along with best practices for adoption, execution, and program control and monitoring.
GAO defines agile as “an approach to software development in which software is developed incrementally and is continuously evaluated for functionality, quality, and customer satisfaction. Agile can reduce the risks of funding a program that fails or produces outdated technology.”
“Although federal auditors are the guide’s main audience, other government professionals, including agile practitioners, program management office personnel, and various governance bodies, should find the guide’s framework useful for understanding agile processes and their application,” it said.
