The Volcker Alliance, a good-government group, will expand to two more areas its Government-to-University Initiative aimed at creating partnerships to help fill government needs, including to recruit for high-need occupations.
The expansion to the Los Angeles and Pittsburgh areas follows the initial program launched last year in the Kansas City area. In the Los Angeles area the Volcker Alliance has partnered with the Southern California Association of Governments and in the Pittsburgh area with Carnegie Mellon University.
“Each new G2U Regional Council will connect local, state, and federal government leaders in a region with key faculty and administrators from surrounding colleges and universities. They will identify and pursue opportunities to better strengthen the pipeline of talent from local universities into government and explore approaches to systematizing research exchanges focused on solving pressing government problems,” an announcement said.
Areas of focus include inspiring and preparing students to succeed in the public workforce and helping them navigate public sector hiring; applying academic knowledge to government management problems; and developing long-term research relationships between agencies and universities.
