Federal Manager's Daily Report

GSA has posted an interactive map of federally owned properties, saying it will “make it easier for industry stakeholders and the American public to help” the process of identifying and selling, donating or otherwise disposing of excess.

The map was posted under terms of the Federal Assets Sale and Transfer Act of 2016, one of the many laws and administrative initiatives of recent years targeting excess real estate. Difficulty in shedding underused or unused properties has long been a challenge for federal agencies and is especially a concern at the two largest, DoD and VA, which have complained to Congress repeatedly about the cost of maintaining such properties.

The map uses data from the Federal Real Property Profile management system and includes search and filter capabilities. “Enhancing the quality and usability of the federal government’s real property data will boost transparency, help better utilize government assets and make it easier to identify properties for disposal,” said GSA.

A link to the map is in the announcement on the GSA site.
