Despite a 58 percent increase in Hispanic hiring in the
federal government during fiscal 2002, the Office of
Personnel Management says more needs to be done. “More
progress needs to be made to attract Hispanics… and to
achieve the diverse federal work force President Bush called
for in his Management Agenda,” OPM chief Kay Coles James
recently told HR and EEO directors.
She touted efforts by the National Association of Hispanic
Federal Executives to promote more management accountability
for Hispanic representation in the Senior Executive Service;
better strategic management of human capital; improving
mentoring of Hispanics in grades GS-12 through 14, and
innovative recruiting, training and retaining of Hispanics.
