The National Treasury Employees Union has announced that
it won arbitration for Internal Revenue Service employees
guaranteed compensation for use of their bilingual
abilities under a national labor agreement between NTEU
and IRS.
NTEU had filed a grievance on behalf of 10 employees of
the IRS Bloomington, Ill., Area Distribution Center, where
they fill requests for forms and publications as order
entry clerks, said the employee union.
It said an arbitrator cited as precedent an agreement that
had settled similar issues at two IRS service centers that
clearly demonstrated the bilingual employees were entitled
to be rewarded for the successful use of their language
skills.
The aggrieved employees who are full time were awarded $450
while part-timers got no less than $150, said NTEU.
