19.2% more veterans were hired in 2002 over 2001,

representing 17% of all new hires in the federal government


and 26% of all full-time permanent new hires, according to

an annual report from the Office of Personnel Management.

As of September 30, 2002, the federal government employed

450,100 veterans, two times that of the civilian labor

force. Eleven of 17 executive departments and 15 of 27

agencies increased their representation of disabled

veterans in their new hires, said OPM.
