In an effort to promote the physical fitness and health of
federal employees the Office of Personnel Management has
launched HealthierFeds.opm.gov.
The effort partly reflects the notion that a healthier
workforce is cheaper in terms of health care and is more
effective. “This initiative is a shift in the traditional
approach to the health of our citizens, moving us from a
disease care system to a health care system,” said OPM.
The HealthierFeds website includes health information for
employees and agencies, FEHB carriers’ information, and
downloadable posters and other materials. OPM is also
sponsoring a series of events to encourage agencies and
employees to develop healthier habits and use the program.
OPM has asked agencies to designate a point of contact for
the HealthierFeds campaign that throughout 2004 will
emphasize education and awareness, personal progress and
responsibility and benchmarking/best practices.
