DHS has deployed a new Automated Indicator Sharing – AIS, system that automates information sharing on cyber threat indicators between the public and private sectors at machine speed.
If it becomes widely used, the system could greatly increase the speed and breadth of cyber information sharing among participants.
The department’s National Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Center says AIS is “open for business” and receiving submissions. Submitters can choose to have their identity withheld as the source of distributed information, and AIS provides for liability protection for sharing when following the submission requirements. Called for under the 2015 Cybersecurity Act, the system was designed to funnel indicators to the NCCIC from the private sector and other non-federal entities, filter out personally identifiable information (with some manual removal if necessary), and then disseminate indicators to participants very quickly to improve up to date visibility over the threat landscape.
