The new policy would provide the expanded eligibility under the same general terms that apply today to the 13-day eligibility. Eligible family members would include the employee’s spouse and the parents of either, children and their spouses, brothers and sisters and their spouses and any individual “related by blood or affinity whose close association with the employee is the equivalent of a family relationship.” Covered conditions would include cancer, heart attacks, strokes, severe injuries, Alzheimer’s disease, pregnancy and childbirth and other conditions covered by the Family and Medical Leave Act.
