The White House has issued an update on vaccination rates among federal departments and agencies showing rates of vaccination or compliance with the federal vaccine mandate approaching or well exceeding 90 percent.
“In the 75 days since the President announced the vaccination requirement, the Federal Government has achieved 96.5 percent compliance—meaning employees who have had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccination or have a pending or approved exception request—with 92.0 percent of employees having received at least one COVID-19 vaccination dose,” according to the update.
It said that the mandate’s deadline of November 23 – applying to some 3.5 million federal employees – was not an “end point” and that personnel not yet in compliance will be subject to a period of education and counseling followed by additional enforcement steps up to termination.
If an employee gets a first shot of a two-dose course, or requests and exception, the employee will be given a “reasonable amount of time” to get the second shot or to process the request – something the Administration says will result in more employees getting vaccinated.
The CDC reports that as of November 24, 73.9 percent of the US population over five years old has received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose. (Community transmission is high, per the CDC.)
