The Office of Government Ethics has increased the thresholds for reporting certain gifts and gift equivalents that federal employees receive in the course of their official duties, applying both to those who file publicly available financial disclosure forms and those who file confidential forms (OGE Forms 278 and 450). The new aggregation threshold for the reporting of gifts and reimbursements received from any one source is “more than $390”; items worth “$156 or less” do not need to be counted towards that overall threshold. Those increases, up from $375 and $150, respectively, are effective retroactive to the start of calendar year 2017. Similarly, the reporting threshold for the value of gifts of free attendance from a non-sponsor at widely attended gatherings has been increased to $390.
