Legislation (HR-2498) passed by a House health subcommittee would require the government to issue rules for placing automatic external defibrillators in federal buildings. They are portable devices designed to restart a heart after a heart attack. The measure also would set federal standards to protect those who try to help others by using such devices from legal liability.
